FAQ's

  • What is spray foam?

Spray foam insulation is a two-part mixture, typically made of isocyanate and polyol resin, that expands upon mixing to fill the space it's applied to. This expansion creates a foam that insulates and seals air leaks, making it a popular choice for energy-efficient construction and retrofits. The mixture is sprayed into wall cavities, attics, crawl spaces, or other areas needing insulation. The foam expands to fill the space, creating a tight seal and minimizing air leaks.  It dries, cures, and hardens very quickly. This system creates a seamless, insulating air barrier to improve the energy efficiency, comfort and durability of homes and buildings. designed for residential, commercial and industrial building applications.

  • Is spray foam better than cellulose or fiberglass?

Spray foam insulation generally outperforms cellulose and fiberglass due to its superior air sealing capabilities and higher R-value per inch, which translates to better energy efficiency. Spray Foam has a significant longer lifespan (up to a century), better air sealing capabilities, block moiture, reduce noise, and limit the influx of outdoor pollutants and allergens. Due to it's superior quality spray foam insulation comes at a premium cost.

If budget is not a primary concern and you prioritize energy efficiency and air sealing, spray foam is the best choice. If you're looking for a more eco-friendly option with decent performance, cellulose is a good alternative. And if you need a budget-friendly option that's easy to install, fiberglass is a solid choice.

At Aires, we work with our clients to ensure that we find the right solution based on the customers requirements.

  • What is R- value?

In construction and building science, the R-value is a measure of how well a material resists heat transfer. A higher R-value indicates better insulation, meaning the material is more effective at preventing heat from flowing through it. This is crucial for maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature and improving energy efficiency by reducing the need for heating and cooling. The R-value of a material can vary based on factors like the type of insulation, its density, thickness, and even whether it has become wet.

  • Can you insulate existing homes, or only new construction?

We do both. Whether you’re building new, renovating, or upgrading an older home, we can apply spray foam or blown-in insulation to meet your needs. We also specialize in attic upgrades and wall injection for retrofit projects.

  • How long does spray foam last?

Spray foam insulation can last 50+ years with no settling, sagging, or loss of performance. Unlike batt or blown-in insulation, spray foam doesn't degrade over time, making it a long-term investment in energy efficiency and home comfort.

  • How do I know if my attic insulation needs to be replaced?

There are many signs that could indicate that your attic insulation needs replacement. Some of them include:

    • Uneven temperatures or drafts in your home
    • High Heating and Cooling Bills
    • Visible moisture, mold, or mildew
    • Pest activity or unpleasant odours
    • Insulation that looks compressed, dusty, or deteriorated

Lastly, if your attic has wood chips or outdated materials (like vermiculite) it's a good idea to have it assessed for removal and replacement.

  • Do you offer free estimates?

Absolutely. We provide free, no-obligation quotes for all insulation services, including new installations, attic upgrades, and insulation removal. Simply contact us to book a site visit or phone consultation.
