Insulation contractor in Edmonton and Calgary
Spray foam, blown-in fibreglass and cellulose, attic clean-outs and rim joists. We pick the material for the space, not the other way round.
New build, closed cellAires Spray Foam & Insulation is a family-owned contractor based in Edmonton and Calgary. We install closed and open cell spray foam, blown-in fibreglass and cellulose in homes, shops, farms and commercial buildings across Alberta.
We've been doing this for 11 years. Most of the work is closed cell spray foam, but a good share is attics: pulling out old fill, fixing the vents and blowing in new insulation to R-50. The right answer depends on where the insulation is going. A rim joist and an attic floor are different problems.
Our crews work from a written scope and complete quality checks for depth, coverage and clean-up.

Foam bonds to whatever it touches and seals air gaps as it insulates. Read how spray foam works first if you're new to it.

R-values are approximate published ranges. The exact number depends on the product and how it's installed.
| Material | Approx. R per inch | Air barrier? | Vapour barrier? | Best uses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Closed cell spray foam | R-6 to R-7 | Yes | Yes, at 2 in or more | Rim joists, basement walls, metal buildings, roof decks, sea-cans |
| Open cell spray foam | R-3.5 to R-3.8 | Yes | No | Interior walls, sound control, some unvented roof lines |
| Blown fibreglass | R-2.5 to R-3.7 | No | No | Open attic floors, top-ups, dries out well if it gets damp |
| Blown cellulose | R-3.2 to R-3.8 | No | No | Attic floors, farmhouses (borate treated for pests and mould) |
Cellulose is about 85% recycled paper. It's denser than fibreglass and a little better per inch, but it's heavier, settles more and holds moisture longer. Fibreglass is made from sand and recycled glass. It's the most common insulation in Canada and it dries out more easily.
Finance it through your property taxes
Aires is a CEIP Qualified Contractor for Edmonton and the surrounding approved municipalities. Under the program, you can pay for insulation through your property tax bill over up to 25 years, and the balance stays with the house if you sell.
To qualify, attics need to reach at least R-50 (R-28 for flat or cathedral ceilings) and basement or crawlspace walls need at least R-12 added. Residential projects need at least three qualifying upgrades unless the home reaches net zero. The CEIP financing page walks through the steps.

Questions we get asked
What type of insulation is best for an Alberta home?
It depends on the spot. Closed cell spray foam is hard to beat on rim joists, basement walls and cathedral ceilings. For an open attic floor, blown-in fibreglass or cellulose usually gives you more R-value per dollar.
How much does insulation cost in Edmonton?
Spray foam is priced by the board foot, and blown-in insulation by area and depth. The total depends on the space, the material and what has to come out first. We measure on site and give you a free written quote.
Do I need a vapour barrier with spray foam?
Closed cell foam at 2 inches or more acts as its own vapour barrier, so most assemblies don't need separate poly. Open cell lets vapour through and usually does need one. Your inspector has the final word on your project.
Can you insulate in winter?
Spray foam needs the surface and the material inside a set temperature range, so a cold space may need heating first. Blown-in attic work is less sensitive. Call us and we'll talk through timing for your job.
Can I finance insulation with CEIP?
In Edmonton and other participating municipalities, yes. Aires is a CEIP Qualified Contractor. Attics need to reach at least R-50 and basement walls need at least R-12 added to count toward the program.
Do you remove old insulation?
Yes. We vacuum out old, wet, smoke-damaged or rodent-contaminated insulation and wood chips with industrial equipment. If we suspect vermiculite, it needs testing for asbestos before anyone touches it.
